If you are a young individual aged between 16-30 years from European country and have an idea or creative thoughts on how AI can be used to help address and combat the challenges facing Europe today?, then apply now for the German-Baltic Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania in October 2024.
About the Conference
The German-Baltic Conference in Vilnius, Lithuania (October 2024) is inviting 40 young people from all over Europe to discuss the importance of AI and its role in crisis management in Europe. The Youth Ambassadors (YA) have the chance to work together within four respective clusters:
Cluster A “AI in Refugee Protection and Humanitarian Aid” (Target Country: Lithuania): This cluster focuses on improving the efficiency of humanitarian aid and refugee protection through AI, while ensuring decisions are ethical, non-discriminatory, and compliant with human rights. The aim is to balance the speed and accuracy of AI in processing refugee status and aid decisions, considering the growing number of people fleeing from war, violence, and persecution.
Cluster B “AI in Healthcare” (Target Country: Latvia): This cluster addresses the challenges in Latvia's healthcare system, exacerbated by the Covid crisis. The goal is to explore how AI can create more efficient healthcare policies and solutions. Participants will engage in discussions and activities to integrate AI tools ethically and effectively, ensuring equitable healthcare for all citizens.
Cluster C “AI and Disinformation” (Target Country: Germany): This cluster investigates the impact of AI on election disinformation, recognizing the growing use of AI in election campaigns and the spread of false information. The focus is on identifying AI-generated content and developing strategies to counter disinformation, which is crucial for protecting democratic processes.
Cluster D “AI in Climate Change Management” (Target Country: Estonia): This cluster explores the role of AI in tackling climate change, aiming to develop policy recommendations for Estonia to reduce its carbon footprint. The emphasis is on leveraging AI for environmental protection while managing its energy consumption, with the goal of creating sustainable solutions for broader application.
Each cluster work will be organised into three phases. Phase one includes approximately four online meetings and workshops in September and October. During these sessions, you will be introduced to the conference concept, meet your fellow Young Ambassadors and the Head of Cluster, become familiar with your cluster subtopic, and receive guidance on writing policy papers. Phase two involves in-person meetings at the German-Baltic Conference in Vilnius from October 24th to 27th, 2024, where you will discuss your subtopic in person and begin drafting your policy papers. Phase three takes place after the conference, requiring you to work online with your cluster to finalise your cluster paper and prepare for a national parliamentary hearing.
