An exciting opportunity for young people from all over Europe who are interested in joining a short-term ESC Team volunteering project on environmental issues, activities, reuse, and local agricultural culture, to apply for the "Autumn Roots" project, which takes place in Altamura, Italy, between 15 October and 13 November 2025. This volunteering project is organized by "LINK Association APS" and funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union.
About the Volunteering
Autumn Roots is a one-month Volunteering project that includes environmental activities with a primary focus on sustainability, reuse, and local agricultural culture. Among the experiences: the traditional Apulian olive-growing process, including olive harvesting and subsequent milling; seasonal agricultural activities. There will also be a focus on the Agorateca community garden through its maintenance and design, followed by the construction of new furniture and fixtures.
At the beginning of the volunteering project, Volunteers will receive basic training on the Italian language and culture. They will also be trained on key technical tasks such as the use of equipment and the main safety and prevention regulations.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Young people aged between 18 and 30 years old with an interest in the project topic.
- Participants must be a residents and coming from one of the following countries (Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo * UN resolution, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden).
- Volunteers should have a good command of the English language.
- Volunteers should have manual and creative skills and show flexibility during the activities.
- Be sure you haven't reached the maximum duration of volunteering within the ESC program (12 months).
- Organisers strongly prefer that the volunteers have a sending organization that will take care of the preparation and support them during and after the project.
Expenses and Benefits
- Volunteers will be accommodated in a large apartment close to Altamura city center.
- Participants will receive food money and pocket money.
- Besides the European Health Insurance Card, you are going to be offered private volunteering insurance at HENNER.
- Your international travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the distance between your home and Italy, according to the following limits:
- from 10 – 99 km - 56 EUR (Green Travel)/ 28 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 100 – 499 km - 285 EUR (Green Travel)/ 211 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 500 – 1999 km - 417 EUR (Green Travel)/ 309 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 2000 – 2999 km - 395 EUR (Green Travel)/ 535 EUR (Non-Green Travel)

IMPORTANT:
- Green travel is mandatory; you must travel sustainably (by bike, train, bus, etc)
- Keep all your travel documents and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!

- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project, where you are expected to self-assess your own learning, and you can add it to your CV.
