An open call for youth workers, youth leaders, and coaches from across Europe to join the Erasmus+ training course "Breaking Bias - understanding and countering anti-Arab racism in Europe". The training course takes place in Turin, Italy, from 11 to 17 February 2026, organised by "Giosef Torino Marti Gianello Guida APS" and co-funded by the European Union.
About the Training Course
"Breaking Bias" is a 5-day training course that aims to promote understanding and inclusion by countering anti-Arab and anti-Arab/Muslim bias, stereotypes, and discrimination within the European educational context. The specific objectives for the training are:
- To raise awareness among youth workers, educators, and teachers about stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding Arab and Arab/Muslim communities
- To encourage critical self-reflection on personal biases, prejudices, and everyday practices that cause exclusion or discrimination.
- To deconstruct invisible and normalized forms of racism against Arabs and Arab/Muslims through youth work and intercultural learning.
- To explore the historical and geopolitical roots of anti-Arab and anti-Arab/Muslim sentiments and their social consequences in contemporary Europe.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- The training will host 21 Youth workers, educators, and teachers living in one of the following countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland).
- Participants must have a good command of English.
- Participants must be aged over 18 with no upper age limit.
- Able to travel to Italy and participate in the entire training program.
- This Training course is for people working regularly in the youth field at the local and/or international level.
Expenses and Benefits
- There is no participation fee to join this training course.
- Board and lodging for the training course will be provided by Giosef Torino for the entire duration of the mentioned period.
- Please note that only the dinner on the free afternoon will not be covered by Giosef Torino; however, a list of nearby restaurants will be shared.
- The group will be hosted at Open011, A hostel managed by the municipality of Turin, and is located in Corso Venezia 11. Keep in mind that the hostel will ask you to make a copy of your ID card or Passport.
- The participants will be hosted in shared rooms of 3 to 4 people, each room having a bathroom inside. The hostel provides towels and sheets.
- The travel costs will be REIMBURSED after the activity, after receiving all related documents: invoice, receipt, and boarding passes, according to the distance calculator supported by the European Commission.
- Participants are entitled to receive a Youthpass certificate from the organiser for recognition of their competence development during the activity.
What to bring?
- The weather will be very cold; it can reach below zero on some days. So please bring warm clothes and a jacket.
- The activities will take place indoors (or at least most of them), so bring comfortable indoor clothes.
- Personal medicine (if needed);
- Any traditional food and drinks to present your country for the international evening;
- Adventure spirit, open mind, and heart.
