An excellent opportunity for young civil society leaders and youth workers from around the world to attend the Community Engagement Exchange Program in Washington,USA sponsored by the US Department of State and funded by the US government and supported by IREX in its implementation. 




About CEE

The Community Engagement Exchange Program is a program to promote international cooperation and peace between countries of the world by supporting civil society and emerging youth leaders in building healthy, participatory societies in more than 100 countries.

The program is designed to harness the full potential of emerging and influential leaders in society by providing them with opportunities to build lasting international networks and relationships. The program is designed to be a one-year duration of 3 months in the United States to harness the power of networks, relationships, and information for the common good, specifically on issues related to civil dialogue, peacebuilding, sustainable development, women and gender, youth engagement, and other issues. Leaders collaborate Young people work with each other and develop a diverse and multidisciplinary ecosystem of global civil society.


Program Goals

- Preparing the next generation of young leaders and decision makers and empowering participants to take on greater leadership roles in their organizations and create a group of global leaders.

- Enhancing participants' ability to lead collaboratively and ethically.

- Providing participants with the knowledge, experience, skills and democratic principles necessary to be successful members of their societies.

- Develop a global network of civil society and community leaders who contribute to a global civil society ecosystem and work together to develop multifaceted and innovative approaches to healthy and resilient societies.


Eligability

- Aged between 21-28 at the time of Application.

- Citizen of one of the eligible countries listed below;

Africa: Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe

East Asia and the Pacific: Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Singapore, Solomon Islands, Thailand, Timor-Leste, Vanuatu and Vietnam

Europe and Eurasia: Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Middle East and North Africa: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, and West Bank/Palestinian Territories

South and Central Asia: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan

Western Hemisphere: Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela

- Currently living and working in your home country at the time of Application.

- Have 2 years of professional or volunteer experience working on community or civil society issues.

Working on a community engagement initiative in their home country, either in a professional or volunteer capacity, with a demonstrated intent and vision to pursue a career working to support civil society or within the civil society sector.

Able to begin the CEE Program in the United States in 2024.

- Able to receive a U.S. J-1 Visa.

- Committed to returning to their home country after completion of the program and implementing a community-based project.

- Proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application.

- Semifinalists will be required to take a Duolingo English language test.
