About IUCN Leaders Forum

Every year, the IUCN Leaders Forum brings together influential people from all over the world to discuss cutting-edge solutions to pressing global issues, make audacious promises, form alliances, and spark action for meaningful change in nature conservation and sustainability.

Building nature-positive economies and society was the theme of the first IUCN Leaders Forum, which was held in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea, from October 13–15, 2022. More than 500 leaders and change-makers from indigenous and youth-led organisations, national and subnational governments, the commercial sector, and international organisations attended the event.

The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), adopted at the UN, will be the main topic of discussion during the IUCN Leaders Forum's second iteration, which will take place in Geneva, Switzerland, from October 11 to October 13, 2023.


IUCN Leaders Forum Objectives

Three main goals will be the focus of the IUCN Leaders Forum in 2023:

- Bringing together influential and creative leaders (from the public and private sectors, civil society, local and indigenous government agencies, and other groups) with the goal of fostering communication and fostering trust between various groups, forming new partnerships and alliances, identifying creative collective, multi-stakeholder solutions to crucial conservation and biodiversity challenges, and advancing the global environmental policy agenda.

- supplying a platform for world leaders to meet once a year in a safe space to talk about current and future environmental concerns and trends as well as to continue tracking, monitoring, and analysing progress to ensure that nature remains a priority as nations strive toward the 2030 targets and beyond.

- Creating a networking opportunity for young change-makers who are developing or implementing creative environmental action projects to get in touch with possible partners from the public and commercial sectors to advance their ideas.

Eligibility

To apply for IUCN Leaders Forum Change maker you should:

- Aged between 18 and 35 years.

- Have a proven track record of innovation and leadership in the domains of sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, and/or environment protection.

- Are presently engaged in Creative work that is or will support the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework goals and targets.

- Candidates whose projects promote equity, diversity, intergenerational collaboration, and/or employ a human rights-based approach in the design and implementation of the project are strongly encouraged to submit.

Note: IUCN Leaders Forum looking for a diverse pool of global change-makers to participate in the IUCN Leaders Forum. Youth from the Global South are strongly encouraged to apply, as are youth from minority groups, indigenous peoples and local communities and young female leaders and innovators from around the world.
