Schuman Traineeships in the European Parliament 2023/2024

An excellent opportunity to get a paid traineeship in the European Parliament for a period up to 5 months. The European Parliament provides various training offers within its secretariat to contribute to the vocational training of young citizens and to an understanding of the Foundation's work in what is known as the Schuman Training. The number of training opportunities during this course reaches more than 400 opportunIties. You can submit your candidatures for a maximum of three opportunities.


About Schuman Traineeship

A Schuman traineeship will enhance your education and your vocational training. It will provide you with an insight into the work of the EU institutions and the European Parliament, a crucial forum for decision-making and political debate at EU level.

The Schuman traineeships may be undertaken in a wide variety of fields, such as EU internal and external policies, finance, law, multilingualism, administration, infrastructure and logistics, communication or IT. You can only apply for 3 traineeship offers per Campaign. check Traineeship offers from HERE

The duration of the traineeship is between six weeks and five consecutive months, and is decided on by the Member of Parliament who awards the traineeship.


Where?

The Schuman traineeships are paid and can be undertaken at one of the European Parliament's official places of work – Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg – or in its Liaison Offices in the Member States.


Eligibility

- You are a citizen of a European union Member State. The Competent Authority can offer a limited number of traineeships to applicants from outside the European Union.

You must be at least 18 years old to apply. There is no maximum age limit.

- For citizens of Member States: Have a full knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU and a very good knowledge of another official language of the EU.

- For citizens of non-Member States: have a very good knowledge of either English, French or German.

- Have a university university degree awarded on completion of at least 3 years of university studies.You must have obtained your diploma at least three months before the first day of your traineeship.

- Not have worked for more than two consecutive months within an EU Institution or body.

-Not have carried out a study visit in the secretariat of the European Parliament six months prior the beginning of the traineeship.


Required Documents

- A copy of your ID / Valid Passport.

- A copy of your University level diploma.

- A copy of your Criminal record issued within the last six months before the starting date of your Traineeship.

A copy of your CV (only Europass Format )

- Motivation letter per traineeship offer (maximum one page)

Note: These documents can be in any EU official language. However, in order to increase your chances of being selected, your CV should be written in either English or French. We advise you to write your personal statement in the language of the offer for which you are applying.


Finance and Benefits

All “Schuman” trainees are entitled to a travel allowance that partly covers the expenses they will have to bear for travelling from their home to their place of work.

Trainees are awarded a monthly grant of between EUR 858 and EUR 1,407 for a full-time traineeship.  The grant is subject to the weighting applicable in the country in which the traineeship takes place.

The grant is not subject to Community tax.


Timeline

For the 1 October - 28/29 February traineeship - Application period: 1- 31 May.

For the 1 March - 31 July traineeship - Application period: 1- 31 October.

Note: Applications submitted after the deadline or spontaneous applications cannot be considered.
