About the training course 

"Democracy matters" is 6-day Erasmus+ training course organised by AHEAD association in Barcelona for youth workers, trainers, and youth leaders who interested in promoting inclusive democracy and human rights with the Euro-Mediterranean contexts through various strategies involving youth engagement, critical thinking, and collaborative projects. The key points include:

Explore the importance and implementation of inclusive democracy and human rights within the EuroMediterranean regions;

Enhance the skills of youth workers to foster critical thinking and civic engagement among young people, thereby empowering them to participate inclusively in democratic processes.

Facilitate the sharing of youth work methods and promote joint initiatives that uphold democratic principles, empower young individuals, and foster dialogue with policymakers.

Establish support systems to address burnout among activists and organisers, advocating for mental health awareness and implementing strategies to enhance resilience, thus ensuring sustained engagement in democratic activities over the long term.

Promote Cooperation strategies within the Erasmus+ programme, especially in the Euro-Mediterranean region, creating synergies in areas such as political participation, and civic engagement.

The course is designed in techniques that require active participation and exchange between participants. The methodological approach is  rooted in the participants' own experiences and is centred around tangible actions to inform future practices. The methodology of the course is based on the main principles of experiential learning cycle and human rights education.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- The project is addressed for 26 participants from the following countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia.

- Participants can be a youth leaders, youth workers, trainers, educators, etc. who wish to develop competences and practices promoting democratic participation, based on the principles of intercultural democratic citizenship and human rights education.

- Participants must be part from registered Erasmus+ organisation with (OID Number).

- Participants must be over 18 years old with no maximum age limit.


Expenses and Benefits

- There is a participation fee of 35 Euro/ participant.

- Full board and accommodation for the whole period of the project will be provided by the organisers in Vic (Barcelona).

- Visa costs will be reimbursed at the 100 %.

Travel expenses to and from Barcelona will be reimbursed after participation in the project according to the distance between your  travelling place to the volunteering venue as follows:

  • for travel distance between 10 and 99 km: 23 EUR / person, no Green travel available.
  • for travel distance between 100 and 499 km: 180 EUR / person, +30 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 500 and 1999 km: 275 EUR / person, +45 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 2000 and 2999 km: 360 EUR / person, +50 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 3000 and 3999 km: 530 EUR / person, +80 EUR extra for Green travel

  • IMPORTANT: keep all your travel documents! Online boarding passes and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!
  • IMPORTANT: Please send your travel proposition per e-mail to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!
- Participants are entitled to receive Youthpass certificate for the participation.
