An exciting opportunity for 80 young leaders from different European and Asian countries to join ASEF young leaders Summit 2024 in China or Hungary. This summit is organised by Asia-Europe Foundation with the financial support of the European Union and the People's Republic of China.
About ASEFYLS
The ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS) is a Youth platform that links young people across Asia & Europe, with the applying of a 360 degree approach on leadership development and community engagement: 1) self-leadership (you), 2) team leadership (we) and 3) societal leadership (all).
The Society 5.0 concept describes a human centred society that balances economic progress with the solution of social problems by a system that highly combines cyberspace and physical space. ASEFYLS aims to investigate the requisite leadership qualities for Society 5.0 and advise on how youth can ready themselves for an ethical, sustainable, and digital era ahead.
By joining this summit, you will have the chance to
- Learn by receiving training on Leadership and Society 5.0, from leading institutions and thematic experts
- Create Network by Meeting like-minded youth from all across Asia & Europe and build up your network for future partnerships & collaborations
- Explore China or Hungary: Experience and learn more about local perspectives on the incorporation of technology in Society 5.0, in Beijing and Hangzhou, China or Budapest, Hungary.
- Contribute in the dissemination of the knowledge on Society 5.0 and promote Asia-Europe exchange by bringing back your newly gained knowledge to your local communities by organising events/activities.
What commitment is needed ?
From July to December 2024, participants are expected to attend and engage in:
- Knowledge Building phase: There will be five online sessions for the Knowledge Building Phase scheduled from July 2nd to July 30th, 2024, totalling around 10 hours, complemented by individual tasks to be completed at one's own pace.
- In-Person training: Selected participants have the opportunity to attend one of the in-person training sessions either in Beijing and Hangzhou, China (August 10-18, 2024) or Budapest, Hungary (October 6-12, 2024). Availability for these sessions can be specified in the application form, and participants will be assigned to one based on their selection upon acceptance.
- Action phase: Participants are required to arrange multiplier events within their local communities, translating theoretical knowledge into practical action to disseminate their insights to a broader audience. These events should be organised following the in-person training sessions and are expected to take place between August and December 2024.
Eligibility | Who can Apply?
- Being a citizen of one of the eligible European and Asian countries which are partners in ASEM, check the list HERE
- Young professionals and students aged between 18 - 30 years old, however if you are
above 30 and believe you have a lot to contribute,
we encourage you to still apply.
- Have a good command in English (Verbal and written).
- Having a leading role in a Youth Organisation/Student Association (not exclusive to board members, executive committees).
- Ready to join actively the three phases of the program.
Note: For applicants for the in-person training in Hungary, and by the request of the Council of Europe Youth, consideration will also be made for applicants based on residency in an ASEF member country.
Expenses and Benefits
- There is neither registration or participation fee (participation is free of charge);
- Accommodation will be provided in shared rooms for participants travelling from abroad;
- Meals, adjusted for participants who have special dietary requirements, as much as possible;
- Travel reimbursements for the travel costs from your country of residence to China or Hungary and back will be done up to 3 months after the training.
- A Visa support letter if needed for those who need visa
- Upon completion of the full ASEFYLS programme, each Participant will receive a Certificate, jointly issued by ASEF and organising partners, for their participation in the programme.
