About IUCN Leaders Forum
Every year, the IUCN Leaders Forum gathering young leaders and change makers from all over the world to discuss innovative solutions to urgent global challenges, make bold commitments, build partnerships and effective actions for impactful change in nature conservation and sustainability.
Building nature-positive economies and societies was the theme of the first IUCN Leaders Forum, which was held in Jeju Province, Republic of Korea, from 13–15 October 2022. Over 500 leaders and change-makers attended from national and subnational governments, the private sector, international organisations, and Indigenous and youth-led organisations.
The third edition of the IUCN Leaders Forum is scheduled to take place in Geneva, Switzerland, and online from October 8th to 10th, 2024, under the theme: "Utilizing innovation to facilitate conservation."
IUCN Leaders Forum Objectives
Three main goals will be the focus of the IUCN Leaders Forum in 2024:
1. Gathering influential and innovative leaders (government, private sector, civil society, sub-national authorities, Indigenous peoples’ organisations, other) with the aim of: Facilitating dialogue and building trust among diverse groups; building relationships, new partnerships and alliances; identifying innovative collaborative, multi-stakeholder approaches to pressing conservation and biodiversity issues; and promoting progress on the international environmental policy agenda.
2. Offering a platform for world leaders to meet once a year in a safe space to discuss both current and emerging environmental issues and trends, and to continue tracking, monitoring and evaluating progress to ensure nature remains front and centre as countries work towards the targets set for 2030 and beyond.
3. Creating a networking opportunity for young change-makers who are developing or implementing creative environmental action projects to get in touch with possible partners from the public and commercial sectors to advance their ideas.
Eligibility
To apply for IUCN Leaders Forum Change maker you should:
- Aged between 18 and 35 years from all over the world.
- Have a proven track record of innovation and leadership in the domains of sustainable development, climate change, biodiversity, and/or environment protection.
- Are presently engaged in Creative work that is or will support the objectives of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework goals and targets.
- Candidates whose projects promote equity, diversity, intergenerational collaboration, and/or employ a human rights-based approach in the design and implementation of the project are strongly encouraged to submit.
Note: IUCN Leaders Forum looking for a diverse pool of global change-makers to participate in the IUCN Leaders Forum. Youth from the Global South are strongly encouraged to apply, as are youth from minority groups, indigenous peoples and local communities and young female leaders and innovators from around the world.
