Humus | One-month ESC Volunteering project in the Netherlands (Fully Funded)

An open call for young individuals from all over Europe who are motivated to experience hands-on work, community building and sustainability. This ESC Teams volunteering project "Humus" will be organised by Olde Vechte Foundation from 5th of January 2025 to 5th of February 2025 in Ommen, the Netherlands. This project is co-funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme, coordinated by the European commission.

About the Volunteering

"Humus" is a one-month ESC Teams volunteering for young people from all over Europe who don't need visa to stay one month in the Netherlands. By joining this project you will experience the living in an international community. During this experience participants will live, cook, and spend time together. It’s an opportunity to foster sustainability and community well-being, as we establish mutual agreements, learn from one another, and grow through shared experiences. At the same time we interact with local surroundings and local community.

Get ready to roll up your sleeves! Participants will be working on:

1. Renovating the floor in a sustainable way of one of the houses in Olde Vechte foundation.

2. Renovating the design of rooms of the main building of Olde Vechte foundation.

3.Planting trees in the area.


About the hosting team

The project is hosted by Olde Vechte Foundation, a personal development training centre.

Olde Vechte’s mission is to create a learning environment for youth individuals to grow in the personal and professional way. The main focus is on people whose needs cannot be met by formal education methods. Modern approaches of non-formal learning are used in all

the activities of the foundation, bringing about learning by experiencing and enabling the full participation of the people.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

This program will host 15 volunteers to ensure the intercultural dimension of the project.

- Priority is given to individuals aged 23-30 (not older than 31 on the first day of the project), also to those who have completed 14 months of ESC/EVS volunteering programs.

Legal residents of one of the Erasmus+ programme countries with no visa needed to enter the Netherlands.

- Motivated with hands-on activities and practical tasks like gardening, building, cooking, cleaning, etc.

- Priority will be given to those that are currently facing personal obstacles.

There is going to be a couple of volunteers with media skills such as photography and filmmaking.


Expenses and Logistics

You will be accommodated in shared housing. The houses have common spaces, including a bathroom, fully-equipped kitchen and a spacious living room for gatherings.

The project venue is located next to the countryside in Ommen (The Netherlands), surrounded by nature and a river where you can enjoy a cold dip. The city centre is a short 5 minute walk away from the accommodation, where you can find various shops, pharmacies and restaurants.

You will receive 6€/day for your pocket money, additionally the community will receive every week the full amount of the budget for the cooking expenses.

The real cost of travel will be reimbursed with a maximum of the amount that is shown in the European Distance Calculator from your living place to Olde Vechte Ommen, the Netherlands.

Your main health coverage will be your national insurance, and you have to obtain a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) for healthcare benefits in the Netherlands. Apply for the card at least one month before you arrive in the Netherlands. The ESC program provides supplementary insurance to complement your national coverage.

Υou’re entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project where you can self-assess your own learning.

Departure day: 5th of February 2025

Note: We will be working 7 hours a day, 5 days a week, focusing on various manual tasks. Weekends are free for you to discover the local community in the Netherlands!
