About the Schuman Traineeship

A Schuman traineeship is a five-month paid traineeship in the European Parliament that will enhance your education and vocational training. It will provide you with an insight into the work of the EU institutions and the European Parliament, a crucial forum for decision-making and political debate at the EU level.

The Schuman traineeships may be undertaken in a wide variety of domains such as communication, Employment, Economics and finance, Infrastructure and logistics, law, International relations, EU internal polices, administration, IT, and Multilingualism.  You can apply for only 3 traineeship offers per Campaign. The duration of the traineeship is between six weeks and five consecutive months, and is decided on by the Member of Parliament who awards the traineeship.


Where?

The Schuman traineeships are paid and can be undertaken at one of the European Parliament's official places of work in BrusselsLuxembourg, and Strasbourg, or in its Liaison Offices in the Member States.


Eligibility

- You are a citizen of a European Union Member State. The Competent Authority can offer a limited number of traineeships to applicants from outside the European Union.

You must be at least 18 years old to apply. There is no maximum age limit.

- For citizens of Member States: Have a full knowledge of one of the official languages of the EU and a very good knowledge of another official language of the EU.

For citizens of non-Member States: have a very good knowledge of either English, French, or German.

- Have a university degree awarded on completion of at least 3 years of university studies. You must have obtained your diploma at least three months before the first day of your traineeship.

- Not have worked for more than two consecutive months within an EU Institution or body.

-Have not carried out a study visit in the secretariat of the European Parliament six months prior to the beginning of the traineeship.


Required Documents

- A copy of your ID / Valid Passport.

- A copy of your university-level diploma(s).

- A copy of your Criminal record issued within the last six months before the starting date of your Traineeship.

A copy of your CV (only Europass Format )

- Motivation letter per traineeship offer (maximum one page)

Note 1: These documents can be in any EU official language. However, in order to increase your chances of being selected, your CV should be written in either English or French. We advise you to write your personal statement in the language of the offer for which you are applying.

Finance and Benefits

All “Schuman” trainees are entitled to a travel allowance that partly covers the expenses they will have to bear for travelling from their home to their place of work.

Trainees are awarded a monthly grant of between EUR 1000 and EUR 1638 for a full-time traineeship.  The grant is subject to the weighting applicable in the country in which the traineeship takes place.

The grant is not subject to Community tax.

Selection result: shortlisted candidates will be contacted between 1-15 July 2025

Final Selection & Admission: 1st of July  2025 to 31st of August 2025

Traineeship start: 1st October 2025


Round 2 ( October 2025)

Application deadline: 31st of October 2025, 23:59 (Brussels time)

Selection result: shortlisted candidates will be contacted between the 1st to 15th of December 2025

Final Selection & Admission: 1st of December 2025 to 31st of January 2026

Traineeship start: 1st March 2026
