An exciting opportunity for young people from all over Europe to apply for the two-week ESC Team Volunteering Project "Discover Castle Vaeshartelt", a historic estate near Maastricht, Netherlands. The project is open for a maximum of 14 volunteers and takes place from 5 to 19 July 2025. The volunteering project is organised by "Stichting Internationale Werkkampen - SIW" and funded by the European Solidarity Corps Programme of the European Union.
About the Volunteering
Discover Castle Vaeshartelt is a short-term ESC Volunteering this summer at Castle Vaeshartelt, a historic estate near Maastricht, Netherlands! Contribute to environmental restoration, landscape care, and heritage preservation in a unique location with rich Roman, medieval, and aristocratic history.
The Vaeshartelt estate, with its stunning gardens and scenic landscapes, is committed to preserving its cultural and ecological heritage. As a volunteer, you’ll play a key role in the maintenance and restoration of these historic gardens.
In line with the estate’s sustainable values, volunteers will also take part in eco-friendly practices such as composting and recycling organic waste. This hands-on project offers a unique opportunity to gain practical skills in heritage conservation and sustainable gardening, all while contributing to the protection of a remarkable cultural site. Beyond the work, you’ll have the chance to explore the region’s natural beauty and historical significance, deepening your understanding of local environmental practices and landscape heritage.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Young People aged between 18 and 30 years old.
- Participants must be a resident in one of the following countries (Albania, Austria, Aruba, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden).
- Participants must be interested in the geographical and historical details of the project. It is also important that you enjoy working together in teams and that you are interested in making international contacts.
Expenese and Benefits
- The accommodation is in the camping Geuldal. Volunteers will stay in shared tipi tents. At these locations, sanitary facilities are present. Airbeds are available, but you have to bring your own sleeping bag.
- The food will be provided by the Castle Vaeshartelt restaurant.
- Possibility of organizing BBQs.
- €5/day pocket money to support your personal expenses.
- Besides the European Health Insurance Card, you are going to be offered private volunteering insurance at HENNER.
- Your international travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the distance between your home and Italy, according to the following limits:
- from 0 – 99 km - 23 EUR
- from 100 – 499 km - 210 EUR (Green Travel)/ 180 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 500 – 1999 km - 320 EUR (Green Travel)/ 275 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 2000 – 2999 km - 360 EUR (Green Travel)/ 410 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
- from 3000 – 3999 km - 530 EUR (Green Travel)/ 610 EUR (Non-Green Travel)

IMPORTANT:
- Green travel is mandatory; you must travel sustainably (bike, train, bus, etc)
- Keep all your travel documents and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!
- Please send your travel proposition by email to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!
- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project, where you are expected to self-assess your own learning, and you can add it to your CV.

- Visit Maastricht, Valkenburg, and the Three-Country Point
- Go biking (bikes provided), swimming, and more
- Recreational activities are planned with other international volunteers
