Rural Youth Europe Study Session 2026 in Budapest, Hungary (Funded)

An exciting opportunity for 25 young people from across Europe to apply for the Rural Youth Europe Study Session 2026, which takes place in Budapest, Hungary, from 8-14 March 2026 (arrival and departure days included). The study session focuses on media literacy skills and learning to critically assess information. The study section is organised by the Rural Youth Europe (RYE), in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB). 


Rural Youth Europe (RYE), in cooperation with the Council of Europe and the European Youth Center Budapest (EYCB), invites young people from rural communities across Council of Europe member states to join the Study Session 2026: “From Scroll to Action – Media Literacy for Rural Youth Empowerment.”

This week-long program will bring together 25 motivated young people to build stronger media literacy skills, learning to critically assess information, combat disinformation, and engage more confidently with democratic processes at local, national, and European levels. Participants will:

- Analyse the challenges and opportunities of media literacy in rural communities and understand how disinformation influences political disengagement and vulnerability to radicalisation.

- Build practical skills to identify credible information sources, recognise media bias, and spot disinformation tactics.

- Strengthen critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate information effectively.

- Enhance civic participation and learn how to advocate for their rural communities.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- young people aged between 18-30 (a limited number of spots are available for applicants 30+);

Reside in a Council of Europe member state;

Be active in your local community or with a youth organisation;

- Have an interest in media literacy, civic engagement, and rural development;

- Be able to communicate effectively in English;

- Commit to following the Code of Conduct and general rules.


Expense and Benefits 

- All accommodation, meals, and travel costs are fully covered by the Council of Europe.

- A €50 participation fee (collected by RYE) is required. 

- Participants must keep and submit all original tickets, payment proofs, and boarding passes.
