North-South Centre Communication Traineeship 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal (Funded)

An exciting opportunity for university graduates who are nationals of the member states of the North-South Centre and/or the Council of Europe to apply for a paid Traineeship from the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in Lisbon, Portugal, for a period of 3 months (minimum) to 5 months (maximum). This traineeship is offering a monthly grant and health insurance for all the selected trainees.

About the North-South Centre 

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe is an instrument for the multilateral cooperation of the Council of Europe's policy towards its neighbouring regions. Its mission is to promote an active global citizenship among governments, parliaments, local & regional authorities and civil society by raising awareness of global interdependence through intercultural dialogue and global education. 

About North-South Centre Traineeship

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe offers paid traineeships for recent graduates twice a year for a period of three (minimum) to five (maximum) months in different units:

- Global Education

- Youth Cooperation 

- Central Unit - Communication

- Central Unit - Events and administration

Duties

The duties to which trainees are assigned include assisting with the preparation of activities, research, different types of drafting and other day-to-day administrative tasks. The usual working hours are Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30.

Eligibility | Who can apply

- Be a National of one of the member states of the North-South Centre and/or the Council of Europe;

- Completion of higher education or successful completion of at least three years of university study;

- Having a very good knowledge of one of the Council of Europe's official languages (English and French) and a good knowledge of the other;

-  Having a Good drafting ability;

- Candidates who have already completed an internship at the Council of Europe or any of its institutions are not eligible.

Expenses and Benefits

- Trainees are entitled to receive a monthly flat-rate grant of 640 EUR to support their monthly expenses. 

- Trainees are entitled to receive health insurance coverage for the risks of:

•  Sickness and accident.

•  Death or permanent disablement as a result of an accident.

- Trainees are entitled to two days off per month. 

- Travel and Visa costs for the candidates from Algeria, Cabo Verde, Morocco and Tunisia will be covered by the North-South Centre.

Period of traineeship: from March to July 2026
