An exciting open call for young people over 20 from all over the world who would like to fly to Iceland for 10 weeks as a volunteer. If you are excited to spend a 10-week Volunteering programme in the wilderness, Visiting and doing projects in several protected areas around Iceland, then this is an opportunity 4U to the Nature Conservation Agency of Iceland Volunteering Team Programme. The programme has no registration fees and covers the costs of accommodation and food.
About NATTÚRA Volunteering Programme
The ICV Trail Team programme is organised by the Nature Conservation Agency of Iceland. The Trail Team Programme is designed to take care of a wide variety of nature protection tasks and natural trail maintenance projects throughout the country's national parks.
Volunteers will be divided into small teams and travel between sites to complete a series of practical projects. The programme runs for 10 weeks, and the teams usually spend one or two weeks in each location. There will be two groups of volunteers, and you may join one of them on the following dates:
- Group A: From the 31st of May (Sunday) to the 8th of August 2026
- Group B: From the 14th of June (Sunday) to the 22nd of August 2026
The main tasks during this volunteering programme are:
- do projects involving building, repairing, and maintaining small bridges, boardwalks, drains, and stone steps in remote natural trails
- support the activities of local rangers, take part in wilderness restoration actions, such as the removal of invasive plants and obliteration of tracks left by illegal off-road driving.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Applicants must be over 20 years of age
- Participants must be physically fit due to the strenuous natural environment
- Applicants should have some experience in outdoor practical activities.
- The applicant must ensure that he/she will be available for the whole program.
Expenses and Benefits
- There are no registration fees required by the agency.
- Volunteers need to cover the cost to and from Iceland, including the visa fee (if applicable).
- Upon joining the team at the meeting point on the first day and throughout the programme, food, transport, and accommodation are provided.
- Participants will have to cover their own costs during the holiday week.
- Volunteers must take care of their own travel and health insurance.
- The Nature Conservation Agency will provide gloves, waterproof jackets, and trousers for executing the projects, as well as any additional safety equipment that is required.
- The programme includes a holiday week in the middle of the placement (Week 6). This is an opportunity for volunteers to rest, to travel more around Iceland, and meet with friends and families.
Timeline
Application deadline: 15 February 2026
Online Interviews: from mid-February until the beginning of March 2026
Arrival time: at 9:00 AM on Sunday (31st of May and 14th of June 2026)
Departure time: The volunteering displacement ends on Saturday 8th of August and 22 of August 2026, at 20:00 in Reykjavik. the Volunteers needs to arrange the outgoing flights according to this date.
