AHH | ESC Team Volunteering project in Zanzibar, Tanzania (Fully Funded)

An excellent opportunity for young volunteers aged between 18 and 35 from across Europe, who would like to volunteer in Zanzibar for two months. The ESC Team Volunteering "AHH" is calling motivated volunteers to join this project from the 1st of September to the 29th of October 2026. This volunteering project is organized by "Assalam Community Foundation" and funded by the European Union through the European Solidarity Programme. 

About the Volunteering 

AHH is an exciting autumn volunteering project hosted by Assalam Community Foundation (ACF) in Zanzibar that invites volunteers to support education, community outreach, and permaculture activities in underserved communities. Volunteers take part in educational programs for children and youth, vocational training for women, environmental actions, and cultural exchange initiatives. 

Activities include teaching and facilitating workshops in science, arts, sports, leadership, and entrepreneurship, supporting permaculture gardens, tree planting, beach cleaning, and food aid. 

Volunteers work at ACF’s campus in Kizimkazi and through outreach programs across Zanzibar, reaching children, youth, women, and orphans in remote villages. The project promotes peace, sustainability, empowerment, and social inclusion, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Volunteers receive training, mentoring, and ongoing support while gaining hands-on experience in education, community development, and sustainable practices in a multicultural environment.

Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Young people aged between 18 and 35 and being a citizen or a legal resident in one of these countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye).

- Participants should be motivated to work with children, youth, and women in education, community outreach, and permaculture activities.

- Participants are expected to be open-minded, respectful of local customs and values, and willing to live and work in a shared, community-based environment.

- Volunteers should be comfortable working in teams, follow community rules, and demonstrate punctuality, commitment, and active participation.

- Basic English communication skills are required, along with an interest in cultural exchange, community development, and sustainable practices.

- Applicants must complete the Humanitarian Aid Training (online + 5-day face-to-face training). To get the online training, follow these instructions 

Expenses and Benefits

- The participation is free of charge.

- Volunteers will be accommodated in shared rooms (3 - 4 people per room with the same gender) on the AFC Campus. 

- The accommodation has WiFi access, and it is close to the workplace (no distance).

- All meals are fully provided by ACF, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with tea, coffee, and water available throughout the day.

- Volunteers are picked up from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) by ACF and transported to the project site.

- Each Volunteer is entitled to receive 500 EUR per month as pocket money for personal expenses.

- The host organisation will cover economy flights according to the rules of the European Solidarity Corps Programme, according to the following limits;

• from 100 - 499 km: 211,00€ 
• from 500 - 1999 km: 309,00€
• from 2000 - 2999 km: 395,00€
• from 3000 - 3999 km: 580,00€
• from 4000 - 7999 km: 1188€
• more than 8000 km: 1735€

- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project, where you are expected to self-assess your own learning, and you can add it to your CV.
