An excellent opportunity for the young people from Asia and Europe to participate in the 5th ASEF Leadership Young Leaders in Society summit from August to December 2023 ( virtual & Salamanca, Spain). This opportunity organised and hosted by Asia-Europe Foundation. ASEF’s contribution is made possible with the financial support of the European Union.
About ASEF
The fifth ASEF Young Leaders Summit (ASEFYLS5) is the place for Asian and European young professionals and students to connect, dialogue and learn from one another. It serves as a platform for young people to express their opinions and grow as leaders. This programme includes three phases:
Phase 1: Knowledge Building, 3 - 28 August 2023 (Virtual)
Phase 2: Youth Summit, 12 – 16 September 2023, Salamanca, Spain
Phase 3: Leadership in Action, September – December 2023 ( Virtual)
Turning theory into action, collaboration between participants to find solutions for real-life challenges
The 5th edition is a hybrid project with collaborative elements taking place online and in Salamanca, Spain. It aims to give the Youth the opportunity to:
- Receive a certified course/training by world-leading institutions on both Leadership and Society 5.0
- Each bring their enthusiasm, knowledge and skills to collaborate in diverse groups to propose solutions to real-life challenges facing society
- Bring the youth voice into the multilateral policy arena and contribute to decision-making.
- Be part of the ASEM-wide Youth Leadership Report.
- Have access to and become a member of the Asian and European youth community opening doors for cross-regional collaboration and exchange.
Finance and Benefits
There are no application or participation fees for this opportunity, the organisers will provide the following services for the selected participants:-
- shared accommodation for the participants from abroad in Salamanca, Spain.
- meals that, to the greatest extent feasible, accommodate visitors with special dietary needs.
- a travel reimbursement for participants flying internationally from their home country to Spain and return
- a visa support letter for those who need one to enter Spain.
Eligibility
Around 120 young people will be selected from across Asia and Europe who fit the following criteria:-
- students and young professional between 18-30 years.
- citizens of eligible Asian and European countries.
- Proven track record of civic and societal leadership.
Participants will come from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds because all youngsters have something to offer and contribute.
Selection Criteria
- When assessing applicants and selecting potential candidates, ASEF and
its partners will particularly look out for:
• Originality of the motivational statement and quality of written answers
• Demonstrated experience in community and societal leadership
• Current or past extra-curricular (and/or professional) activities that
are both relevant for the overall programme and that could enrich the
diversity of expertise and perspectives of the overall participant group.
Timeline
Application deadline: Applications will be accepted until Sunday, 9 July 2023, UTC 23:59
Results of selections: the application outcome will be announced through email by Monday, 24 July 2023
Phase 1: the Knowledge Building Phase will take place online from 4 – 28 August 2023, featuring 2 sessions per week on Mondays & Fridays at 8am – 10am UTC.
Phase 2: the Youth Summit, will take place from 12 – 16 September 2023 in Salamanca, Spain.
Phase 3: the Leadership in Action Phase, will take place online from 18 September – 4 December 2023, with a closing ceremony on 5 December 2023.
