About the Project
"Seeds For Community Regeneration" is a 23-day ESC Team Volunteering project for 15 international volunteers that aims to revitalize and regenerate the local community by renovating the village's old abandoned school building and constructing a stunning herbal multi-sensorial permaculture garden in the nearby yard! By building communal infrastructure that will be used by everyone and that will encourage fresh creative and cultural activities, we genuinely hope to engage with the local population more deeply in an organic and integrative way, renewing and regenerating the village.
The abandoned village school will be repaired and converted into a multipurpose area to meet the requirements of the larger community (hosting visitors, a co-working space, a location for informal education, and more).
Project activities
- Repairing the abandoned village school, changing it into a multifunctional space
- Building a rocket mass heater (stove) for heating up the school
- Creating multi sensorial herbal permaculture gardens to make the area beautiful & educational
- Making playground elements for the children
- Organising, participating, taking care of regular chores, keeping up a sound gather energetic using casual and non-formal instructive devices
Finance and Benefits
- This volunteering project will take place in the COB farm, in central Greece. the accommodation will be in tents provided by the host organisation, It is necessary that you bring your own outdoors sleeping material.
- The house on the farm include a kitchen to cook the daily meals, which are healthy and VEGAN. If you have any allergies or intolerances, please inform us ahead of time, so the organisers can plan accordingly.
- There is some internet access on the farm, close to the house, but don't forget to connect with nature, rather than with the internet.
- the farm is off-grid and the energy supplied by a solar panel system, so the electricity is limited.
- The weather in August is quite hot. It varies from 30-35°C but no worries, there is a pond and a nearby lake where you can dive in if it becomes unbearable.
- Travel expenses from your home country to project venue will be reimbursed after participation in the project according to the distance between your travelling place to the volunteering venue as follows:
- for travel distance between 0 and 99 km: 23 EUR / person.
- for travel distance between 100 and 499 km: 180 EUR / person, +30 EUR extra for Green travel.
- for travel distance between 500 and 1999 km: 275 EUR / person, +45 EUR extra for Green travel.
- for travel distance between 2000 and 2999 km: 360 EUR / person, +50 EUR extra for Green travel.
- IMPORTANT: keep all your travel documents! Online boarding passes and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = no reimbursement!
Eligibility
- Aged between 18-30 years old.
- Resident in one of ESC program countries, expect Greece.
- Highly motivated person, with good social skills and a good relationship with children.
- Experience in building/farming and cooperative projects will be highly appreciated.
- Having a good level in English language.
- Sleeping bag
- Air or fitness or camping mattresses, pillow, and 2-3 pillow cases.
- towels for shower
- reusable water bottle
- clothes that can get dirty
- Swimsuit and towel (if you are interested in saunas and pond swims)
- Hat (to protect against the sun)
- Flash light
- Raincoat and warm clothes (the weather can quickly change)
- Comfortable shoes and clothes for outdoors, walking and being outside
- Ecological and biodegradable shampoo, toothpaste and soap, suitable for the internal sewage system
