Your Europe, Your Say (YEYS) Event in Brussels, Belgium (Fully Funded)

Open call for young people from Europe to join the 15th edition of "Your Europe, Your Say" in Brussels, Belgium. YEYS is the European Economic and Social Committee's (EESC) flagship youth event. This year, it will take place on Wednesday 6 March 2024, as part of the EESC's Civil Society Week  (4-7 March 2024).

About YEYS

YEYS is the European Economic and Social Committee's flagship youth event. It launched in 2010 with the aim of connecting young people from European countries to the European Union. YEYS is be in the run up of the Europe.  YEYS 2024 will bring together young voters from all EU member states, candidate nations, and the UK who are 18 to 25 years old. In addition to contributing to the EESC's pre-election activities, participants will be asked to discuss and submit ideas regarding the European elections. The purpose of the event is to motivate attendees to vote in accordance with their democratic right and to actively encourage others to do the same.


Eligibility | Who can apply for YEYS

Participants of YEYS 2024 must be 18 to 25 years of age at the time of the event and:

- live in any of the EU's Member states and be eligible to vote in the European elections or live in one of the 8 candidate countries for the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye and Ukraine) or the UK.

- Applicants may be a high school students or students representing university student organisations or societies or youth delegates active in civil society such as youth organisations, environmental associations, women, people with disabilities, human rights' activists, volunteers, etc.

Participants must have a strong command of both spoken and written English, as the event will be held completely in English.

Selection Procedure for YEYS 2024

There are three categories will be used to nominate or choose 108 candidates for YEYS 2024:

45 participants will be nominated by the EESC's three groups from their networks and organisations: 15 from the Employers' group; 15 from the Workers' group; and 15 from the Civil Society Organisations' group;

- 37 participants will be nominated as follows: one delegate per national youth council (27 from EU member states, eight from candidate countries and one from the UK) plus one from the European Youth Forum (EYF);

26 participants will be selected by an open call for applications.


Financial conditions a Benefits

EESC will cover the accommodation and the travel for the successful applicants as follows:

EESC will arrange and pay for accommodation in Brussels for two nights (5th, 6th of March 2024)

- EESC will reimburse the price  of a return flight (economy class) or train/bus journey between the country of residence and Brussels.

For any participant, the EESC will not pay for transportation from their place of residence to the train or airport of departure. The expense of bus or metro tickets from the Brussels airport or train station to the hotel or the EESC will also not be reimbursed by the EESC.

Up to five participants of the YEYS event will be selected by random draw and invited to take part in all the events of Civil Society Week starting on 4 March. For these five participants, the EESC will arrange and pay for accommodation in Brussels for up to five nights, as well as a return flight or train/bus journey between the country of residence and Brussels.

A random drawing will be used to pick up to five YEYS participants, who will then be asked to participate in all of Civil Society Week's events beginning on March 4. The EESC will plan and cover these five participants' lodging expenses in Brussels for a maximum of five nights, in addition to the cost of their return airfare or rail/bus travel from their home country to Brussels.


What to Bring?

- Participants must carry their personal travel documents (Passport or ID) 

- Participants must have their own travel insurance and bring evidence for covering, for EU citizens they can bring the European Health Insurance Card which is free. For participants from outside EU must check with their national health system or private insurance company that they are covered abroad.


Timeline

Application deadline: 31 December 2023

Selection result: successful applicants will receive an email by the end of January to complete online registration form by 5th February 2024. Unsuccessful candidates will be informed by email at the latest by mid-February 2024.

Arrival day: 5th March 2024

Event day: 6th March 2024
