About Romania Scholarship 

The Romanian government offers fully funded scholarships for all non-EU citizens to study in Romania for free. The scholarship applicant can study a program in any of the following three cycles in accredited higher education institution in Romania:

Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree programmes are intended for applicants wishing to continue their education at a Romanian university as well as graduates of high school or pre-university studies from which they received a baccalaureate degree or an equivalent. The entire programme runs for a period of 3-6 years, depending on the specialisation followed and ends with a bachelor's exam;

Master's Degree: Master’s degree programmes are dedicated to university graduates, run for a period of 1 year, 1.5 years or 2 years and end with the dissertation exam;

PhD: Doctoral programmes are addressed to graduate students with Master's degree and run for a period of 3-5 years, depending on the profile of the chosen faculty and end with the presentation of a PhD thesis.

The beneficiaries of the scholarships granted by the Romanian state for Bachelor's and Master's studies will study only in Romanian language. The exception is doctoral scholarship holders, who can choose for studies in Romanian or in a foreign language set by the doctoral school.

All the scholarship holders who will study in Romanian and they don't speak Romanian will be granted a preparatory year to study Romanian. 


Eligibility | Who can apply for Romania scholarships

- Foreign citizens from all non-EU countries can apply for this scholarships

- There is no age limit to apply for the Romanian scholarships

- For candidates who are applying for Bachelor's and Master's degrees, no English language are required.


Practical conditions and benefits

The scholarship is financing all the costs regarding the study and staying in Romania and includes: 

- financing tuition fees;

financing the accommodation expenses in the dormitories, through the budget of the Ministry of Education

- granting a monthly financial aid, as follows: the equivalent in ”lei” (the Romanian currency) of the amount of:

  •  65 EURO, for undergraduate and the preparatory year students
  • 75 EURO, for master students, 
  • 85 EURO, for PhD students.
Note: In order to be granted the monthly financial aid, students in the Romanian preparatory year, as well as those in the undergraduate and master's university programs, must obtain at the end of each academic year a number of 60 transferable credits.

medical assistance in case of medical-surgical emergencies and diseases with endemic-epidemic potential,

exemption from the payment of the study visa fee.


Required documents

to apply for the Romanian scholarship you need to have the following documents:

Copies of the diplomas obtained (High school, baccalaureate diploma, plus bachelor's, master's, doctorate degree, if applicable) and their authorised translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian. 

Copies of transcripts of the completed studies and their authorised translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if needed.

- Copy of the birth certificate (or equivalent document) and the authorised translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if needed.

- Copy of the first three pages of the passport or of the national document of identity (ID) and the authorised translation into English, French, Spanish or Romanian, if needed.

Curriculum Vitae (CV) written in English or French.

- For the doctoral cycle, the candidate needs to submit a letter of intent containing the list of scientific works, specialised publications, the detailed description of the proposed research project, as well as the agreement of a tutor, which must be a member of the chosen doctoral school. Both documents must be written in English, French or Romanian.

Note: All documents must be scanned individually, and each document must contain the original and translated copy in PDF format.


Timeline

Application period: The enrolment period is  from16 January to 16 March 2024.

Selection result: The selection results of the scholarship will be announced by e-mail, around 15 July 2024 to every candidate who applied for a scholarship.

Visa admission: Successful candidates will apply for the Visa in the Romanian embassy in their countries in August 2024

Studying Start: the academic year usually begins on the 1st of October in Romania
