About Mussomeli

Mussomeli  is a town and comune in the province of Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy. Mussomeli is claimed to have been founded in the 14th century by Manfredo III Chiaramonte with the name Manfredi, but later the current name, of Latin or Arab origin, was imposed. In 1549 it became a county under the Lanza family. Mussomeli is known for some of its popular attractions, which include: Castello Manfredonico o di Mussomeli. Santuario Madonna dei Miracoli. Tio Pepe.


About the Project

Break Barriers, Build Bridges is a short-term ESC volunteering for young people from different European countries. All the activities during the project will be based on Non formal Education and will be also focused on EU values. The project aims to promote the individual rights by engaging the participants in dynamic workshops and activities aimed at content creation. All the activities from group projects to individual initiatives will promote personal and social development through participation.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Young people aged between 18-30 years old

- Applicants must be a resident in one of the following countries (Belgium, Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Finland, France, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Moldova, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine)

- Willing to work with disadvantaged youth in rural areas in Sicily, Italy.

-  Positive, curious, open-minded, flexible and responsible person. 

- Able to participate actively in all the project activities.

- Have a good command in English or Italian is preferable but not mandatory.


Expenses and Benefits

- The volunteers will be accommodated together in the beautiful Spinnato palace, a historical place in the centre of Mussomeli, right above Strauss APS association headquarters.

The flat is large and contains all the necessary facilities, including, equipped kitchen, bathrooms, and a large terrace.

Volunteers will receive a food allowance of 5 euros per day plus a pocket money provided by the programme around 5-6 euros per day.

Besides the European Health insurance card you are going to be offered a private insurance from HENNER too.

Your travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the distance between your home and Italy according to the following limits:

  • for travel distance between 100 and 499 km: 180 EUR / person, +30 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 500 and 1999 km: 275 EUR / person, +45 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 2000 and 2999 km: 360 EUR / person, +50 EUR extra for Green travel.

  • IMPORTANT: keep all your travel documents! Online boarding passes and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!
  • IMPORTANT: Please send your travel proposition per e-mail to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!
- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project where you are expected to self-assess your own learning and you can add it to your CV.


What to Bring ?

Passport or ID
- Travel tickets, boarding passes, and invoices
- European Health Insurance Card if you have it
- Comfortable indoor and outdoor clothes
- Slippers, personal toiletries, and towels 
- Personal medicine - if you're taking any please let the organisers know in advance!
- optional: speaker, instruments, games, swimsuit

Departure day: 30th of September 2024

Note: The application can be close at anytime earlier than the deadline in case the host organisation received enough number of the applications, so don't wait until the last minute to apply.
