About ISTA 

The Institute of Science and Technology of Austria is an international research institute in the natural and mathematical sciences, located in Maria Gogging, Klosterneuburg, 20 km northwest of the Austrian capital Vienna. It was established and opened by the Lower Austria Provincial Government and the Austrian Federal Government in 2009.


About ISTA Scientific Internships

ISTA offers for students from all over the world who are either still studying or have obtained a bachelor's or master's degree in natural or computer sciences, mathematics, or any related discipline for a scientific intern which can be appointed for a period of up to one year. 

Selected candidates for the scientific research are chosen by either the head of a research group (Professor or Assistant Professor) or by staff scientists. The appointment to start your internship is contingent upon the availability of  sufficient funds to cover the intern's salary and formal approval from the Academic Affairs division.  Applicants are accepted continuously and those who interested in securing an independent scientific intern position at ISTA should reach out directly to the relevant group leader or staff scientist.


Eligibility

- Applicants from all countries are welcome to apply.

- There is no specific age limit announced by ISTA.

- Applicants must be enrolled as a bachelor's or Master's student or have obtained bachelor's or master's degree

- Students must show high interest in natural or computer sciences, mathematics or any other related disciplines.

- Applicants must have a high level in English (Verbal and written).

- No language certificates are required for the application, however you may upload a language certificate for English if you want to.


Financial support and Benefits

-  ISTA doesn't charge any processing or application fees for any stage of the application process

- Interns will have an employment contract with ISTA and receive 1,462 EUR gross/ month.

Note: To be eligible for employment as a scientific intern at ISTA, individuals cannot already be employed or funded by another entity.


Timeline

Application Deadline: There is no central deadline, applications are accepted continuously

Start day: The registration for the application process must be completed at least two months before your start day 


How to Apply?

Step 1: Select which research group or scientist you’re interested in working with. In order to find out about the range of research groups available, please browse this overview of research groups or list of staff scientists.


Step 2: After selecting a research group you’d like to work with, email the research group leader / staff scientist directly, remembering to include the following:

- a brief overview of your background and explain why you are motivated to work with them.

- an attached CV (in PDF format), listing relevant experience, education history.

- potential dates for your internship (start date must be at least 2 months ahead)


Step 3: If ISTA expresses interest in having you as a scientific intern within their group, either they or their assistant will contact you to proceed with the next steps. This may involve requesting additional details through our application portal.
