An open call for activists, educators, youth workers, and multipliers to improve their competence for the facilitation of peace education and conflict transformation through non-formal education by joining the training course "Peace Education and Conflict Transformation with Young People" from 2-7 December 2024 in the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg, France. This training course is organised and funded by the Youth department of the Council of Europe.
About the training course
The training course is designed for educators, activists, youth workers, and multipliers who seek to enhance their skills in non-formal educational methods for peace education and conflict transformation with young people, in alignment with the values and standards of the Council of Europe youth sector.
The course aims to support young people, their organizations, communities, and those working alongside them in facilitating non-formal peace education and conflict transformation, thereby promoting the development of a culture of peace and human rights in accordance with the Council of Europe's values and standards.
The objectives of the training course are:
- To empower educators, activists, multipliers, and youth workers engaged in various non-formal education settings to design and lead peace education and conflict transformation activities in their work with young people.
- To enhance the confidence and skills of educators, activists, multipliers, and other youth workers in addressing conflicts encountered in their work with youth, whether these arise from social or geopolitical tensions.
- To exchange and learn from participants' experiences and approaches to peace education and conflict transformation, with the goal of enriching and advancing the Council of Europe Youth Department's programming in these areas.
Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Young people aged between 18-30 from a country signatory of the European Cultural Convention, check the list HERE;
- Committed to attending the entire course and actively participating in all program activities;
- motivated to enhance their skills in peace education and conflict transformation and to share their experiences with fellow participants;
- Able to work and communicate in English;
- Supported by a youth organisation or institution within which they can act as multipliers of peace education and conflict transformation.
- English will be the working language of the training course. Participants are expected to be able to express themselves autonomously in English.
Note: The Council of Europe welcomes applications from all candidates who fulfil the specific profile of participants, irrespective of gender, disability, marital or parental status, racial, ethnic or social origin, religion, belief or sexual orientation.
Expenses and Benefits
- Travel costs and visa fees for travelling to and from Strasbourg will be reimbursed according to the rules of the Council of Europe.
- Board and lodging for the residential training course will be provided and paid for by the Council of Europe at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg.
- The European Youth Centres are accessible to people with disabilities and can take measures to accommodate specific needs of participants in this respect.
- An enrolment fee of 60 Euros is payable by each participant. This amount will be deducted from the amount to be reimbursed for travel expenses or paid during the training course.
Note: Only the participants who attend the entire training course can be reimbursed.

How to apply?
All candidates must apply ONLINE at https://youthapplications.coe.int.
- Applications must be accompanied by a letter of support from their sending organisation/institution, to be uploaded on the platform. This letter should clearly state why the organisation thinks the candidate is suitable for the course, how their participation will benefit the organisation and how they will support the candidate to multiply what they have learned at the course. Organisations wishing to nominate several applicants should state the internal priority between these applicants in a support letter so that they can be taken into account.
- The Council of Europe will choose up to 35 participants based on the criteria mentioned above. Efforts will be made to achieve a balanced representation of genders, geographic regions, diverse experiences, cultural backgrounds, as well as organisations, institutions, and projects. A waiting list might also be created.
