An open call for 12 volunteers from across Europe to join the short-term ESC Volunteering "RISE - Reinforcing Inclusion and Social Engagement". The project will take place in Osijek, Croatia from 13th to 28th of May 2025. This project is organised by DKolektiv organisation and funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union.

About the volunteering

The ESC project “RISE” is looking for a team of 12 volunteers to get involved in the local Croatian community! RISE – Reinforcing Inclusion and Social Engagement – offers volunteers from various countries the chance to make a meaningful impact by planning and carrying out volunteer initiatives alongside local residents. Participants will take part in activities that promote youth active citizenship, help organize events, raise awareness about the ESC program, and collaborate with NGOs, schools, and community members. Volunteers will work with schoolchildren and different age groups as part of the national campaign "Croatia Volunteers," which unites citizens and organizations from the civil, public, educational, and business sectors in support of volunteering each year.

About Osijek City

Osijek is the largest city in the east of Croatia and is economic and cultural centre of Slavonia; a region of Eastern Croatia. It's the fourth biggest city in Croatia with population of about 100,000 and the cultural, economic and scientific centre of Slavonia and Baranja region. Osijek is located at only 20 km from the confluence of the Drava and the Danube, in the middle of its 2 850 km long course from German Schwarzwald to the Black Sea. In this part of the European Podunavlje (Danube region) Croatian and Austro-Hungarian heritage meet and you will first notice that in the architecture and rich traditions and gastronomy.

The name was given to the city due to its position on elevated ground, which prevented the city being flooded by the local swamp waters. Its name “Osijek” derives from the Croatian word oseka, which means “ebb tide”

For the first visit to Osijek, we recommend that you visit TvrÄ‘a, a fortified part of the city from the 18th century where you will see some of the most valuable examples of Baroque architecture in Croatia. Passing through the large parks and gardens(the city has 17 parks) you will come to Secession district with monumental public and private buildings such as palaces, galleries, court and post office.
