Boosting Community Spirit | ESC Team Volunteering in Finland (Fully Funded)

An open call for 10-15 volunteers from across Europe who are willing to do voluntary work for three weeks to join the ESC Team Volunteering project "Boosting Community Spirit" which takes place in the Youth Centre Piispala, which is in the rural Northern Central Finland. The project takes place from the 10th of November to the 30th of  November 2025. This volunteering project is organised by Nuorisokeskus Piispala and funded by the European Solidarity Corps of the European Union

About the Volunteering 

The project focuses on strengthening community spirit in Piispala through decorating, painting, and carrying out small improvements at the centre. Volunteers will also host activities for local residents to promote solidarity and a sense of togetherness. As part of the work, they will repaint one of the accommodation areas used by guests. By joining the project, volunteers will gain project management experience, enhance their interpersonal abilities, and develop practical skills. They will also have the chance to explore different cultures and build friendships with fellow participants. The work schedule is five days a week, from 9:00 to 16:00 (7 hours daily), with occasional tasks during evenings or weekends.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Motivated young people who are eager to take part in the project and aged between 18 and 30 years.

Acitizen or a resident in one of the following  countries (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Türkiye)

- Applicants from different backgrounds, such as people of different genders, abilities, and members of different languages, cultural, or minority groups, are welcome to apply.

- Volunteers should have good enough English skills, since English is the language of the volunteering project.

No specific skills are required from the volunteers.

Participants should be interested in working outdoors, being surrounded by nature, have a creative mindset, and be able to work as part of a group.


Expenses and Benefits

- Volunteers will be accommodated at the youth centre Piispala in shared rooms (2/3 persons per room).

Piispala in a shared Four meals per day are prepared by the Piispala’s kitchen and served either in the accommodation or in the cafeteria.

A charter bus will pick up all the participants from the Jyväskylä Travel Centre. All participants must arrive in Jyväskylä on 10 November by 20:00. If the volunteer can’t make it to the bus, they will have to arrange their travel to Piispala on their own. There is no public transportation to and from Piispala.

Participants are entitled to receive 6 euros per day as pocket money according to ESC rules.

-Your international travel expenses will be reimbursed according to the distance between your home and Finland, according to the following limits:

  • from 10 – 99 km - 56 EUR (Green Travel)/ 28 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
  • from 100 – 499 km - 285 EUR (Green Travel)/ 211 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
  • from 500 – 1999 km - 417 EUR (Green Travel)/ 309 EUR (Non-Green Travel)
  • from 2000 – 2999 km - 395 EUR (Green Travel)/ 535 EUR (Non-Green Travel)

  • IMPORTANT: Keep all your travel documents! Online boarding passes and tickets for reimbursements. No documents = No reimbursement!
  • IMPORTANT: Please send your travel proposal by email to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!

- Participants are entitled to receive a YouthPass certificate after the project, where you are expected to self-assess your own learning, and you can add it to your CV. 


Training during the Project

In the first week, volunteers will join an on-arrival training designed to strengthen teamwork and group dynamics. They will also be introduced to Finnish youth centres and their guiding principles. During this time, participants will become familiar with the centre’s facilities and staff. At the start of the project, the main goals, timetable, and specific roles and responsibilities of the volunteers will be outlined.

Departure day: 30th of November 2025

Note: You have 4 extra days in total that you can use before or after the project to travel around Finland. If you wish to do so, bear in mind that you need to cover the costs for your accommodation & food. Late arrivals or early departures are not allowed.
