HYPHEN8: Connecting dots to infinity | Team Volunteering in Italy (Fully Funded)

Open call for 32 volunteers from across Europe to join ESC teams volunteering "HYPHEN8" in the southern part of Italy, Sicily and Calabria regions. This project will last for 40 days. The project is hosted by "Strauss APS" and funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European Union.

About "HYPHEN8"

"HYPHEN8" is a summer team volunteering project which would interest several different communities in southern Italy. The project includes different activities such as events, campaigns, meetings, workshops, work-camps, festivals. Additionally, the project promotes health, well-being, healthy lifestyle, civic participation as means to achieve the main goals. The main aims of the project are as follows:

to contribute to the improvement of health and well-being of vulnerable people, by promoting healthy, eco-friendly, and positive lifestyles.

to help building inclusive communities by supporting vulnerable groups impacted from ongoing crises.

to raise awareness about prevention through campaigns, promotion and public discussions to improve the general and mental health of the populations.

The main activities in the project will be in Sicily and Calabria will have the following structure:

Sicily: connecting with the local reality trough the creation and participation of events connected with healthy lifestyles, well-being, mental health and the power of the nature. Moreover there will be a some ministration of some questionnaire to the local community to tackle and map the understanding of the community about those topics. 

Calabria: preparation and implementation of a big festival called “No borders Festival”. During the preparation of the festival, the volunteers together with the organisers will have labs about music, theatre, dance, body movements, graffiti to be represented during the festival itself.

Eligibility | Who can apply?

- Young people aged between 18 -30 years old,

- A citizen or resident for one of the following countries ( Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Spain, Finland, France, Croatia, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Sweden, Slovenia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Canary Islands).

Highly enthusiastic about the project and the topics covered by the ESC program.

Independent and problem solving oriented.

- Willing to cooperate with people from different backgrounds.

- Flexible, Independent and open-minded.


Expenses & Benefits

- Accommodation is provided by the host organisation during the whole duration of the project.

- Volunteers receives a food allowance to cook by themselves, there is a kitchen to prepare the meals.

Participants will receive a pocket money of 6 euro per day for 42 days which means in total 252 EUR.

After selection, the volunteer will be automatically enrolled by Henner insurance, which will be complementary to the European Health Insurance Card

Generally, activities will take place 5 days per week and at least 6 hours a day. Each week there are two days off and additionally three vacation days during the staying which for logistical reasons will be fixed in advanced.

Travel expenses to and from the project venue will be reimbursed after participation in the project according to the distance between your  travelling place to the volunteering venue as follows:
  • for travel distance between 10 and 99 km: 23 EUR / person, no Green travel available.
  • for travel distance between 100 and 499 km: 180 EUR / person, +30 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 500 and 1999 km: 275 EUR / person, +45 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 2000 and 2999 km: 360 EUR / person, +50 EUR extra for Green travel.
  • for travel distance between 3000 and 3999 km: 530 EUR / person, +80 EUR extra for Green travel

  • IMPORTANT: Please send your travel proposition per e-mail to the organisers and wait for their confirmation before purchasing your tickets!
- Participants are entitled to receive Youthpass certificate after finishing the project.


What to Bring ?

Passport or ID
- Travel tickets, boarding passes, and invoices
- European Health Insurance Card
- Comfortable indoor and outdoor clothes
- Slippers, personal toiletries, and towels 
- Personal medicine - if you're taking any please let the organisers know in advance!
