Sustainability and Solidarity Summer Camp 2024 in Greece (Fully Funded)

About The Volunteering

The "Sustainability and Solidarity Summer Camp 2024" project builds upon the annual initiative known as "Giving a Day of My Summer to the Forest," which has been operating since 2007.

This transformative project, conducted from June to September each year,  is focused on protecting the forests surrounding Mount Olympus. It operates with two daily observation shifts, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., through a vital partnership between local fire brigades and community volunteers.

Over time, the "Giving a Day of My Summer to the Forest" initiative has yielded significant outcomes, notably reducing the risk of forest fires and raising awareness about environmental protection by mobilising and sensitizing people. The steadfast backing from local businesses underscores the project's effectiveness and tangible results.

In 2024, the initiative advances technologically by incorporating drones, generously provided by Aegean Motorway A.E., to enhance forest surveillance. This innovative approach underscores the project's dedication to environmental preservation and community involvement, positioning it as a model of effective grassroots action for Europe as a whole.

Volunteering tasks

The volunteering team will consist of five groups, each comprising approximately four people. These groups will rotate through a set of daily tasks from Monday to Friday:

The first group, known as the "Observers" will be responsible for overseeing fire protection duties at the Plaka watchtower. This entails spending the entire day at the beach, monitoring the forests of Mount Olympus.

The second group, referred to as the "Stewards" will be responsible for arranging and dismantling dining tables for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as handling all dishwashing duties.

The third group, the "Sous-Chefs" will assist the professional cook in the kitchen. They will assist with all meal preparations based on the day's menu, gaining insight into cooking "Greek-style" cuisine.

The fourth group, named "Facility Managers" will oversee general cleanliness and maintenance tasks as outlined in the daily schedule.

Finally, the fifth group, named "Allrounders," will participate in diverse activities associated with various solidarity and social projects initiated by KSK. These may include the Social Pharmacy, Social Goods Distribution, or the Logistics Center for humanitarian Aid. They will receive training in warehouse logistics, circular economy principles, and other relevant skills.
