An open call for university students and graduates to apply for The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) traineeship 2025. EESC offers short-term traineeships for university students last between one month to three months  and long-term traineeships last 5 months. All the traineeships will take place in EESC's offices in Brussels, Belgium. EESC offers monthly stipend, travel reimbursements, insurance and other benefits. About EESC 

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is an EU advisory body that represents civil society, including employers, workers, and various interest groups. Established in 1957, it provides opinions on EU policies and legislation to ensure the voices of diverse societal groups are heard in decision-making. With 329 members from all EU countries, the EESC promotes participatory democracy and focuses on areas such as social policy, economic development, sustainability, and digital transformation. It acts as a bridge between EU institutions and civil society, fostering inclusivity in policymaking.


About EESC Traineeships

The EESC offers traineeships short-term and long-term traineeships twice a year, for university students and graduates from EU Member States and beyond. These traineeships provide hands-on experience in the EESC's advisory and administrative work, focusing on EU policymaking and civil society engagement. 

- Long-term traineeships

Twice a year, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) offers five-month traineeships for university graduates, starting on 16 February and 16 September each year. These traineeships provide a chance to learn about the EESC's activities and gain professional experience in a multicultural environment at its offices in Brussels. 

- Short-term traineeships

Paid traineeships for short periods (one, two or maximum three months) are occasionally available for university students for whom such a traineeship is compulsory for the completion of their studies. In order to be accepted for a short-term traineeship.

In offering traineeships, the EESC's main objectives are to give trainees the opportunity to:

• learn about the EESC's role and activities at inter-institutional level, as well as its relations with the EU Member States and non-Member States;

• acquire practical knowledge about how the EESC's various services operate;

• supplement and apply knowledge and skills acquired during their studies and/or work;

• gain valuable experience in a multicultural, multilingual and multi-ethnic professional environment, helping people develop understanding, confidence and mutual tolerance; and

• take part in a network of former trainees.


Eligibility | Who can apply?

Long-term traineeships:

- Applicants must hold a recognised university-level degree of at least three years of studies, attested by a diploma by the closing date for applications. 

- Have a thorough command of one EU language and a satisfactory command of another, one of which must be English or French for operational reasons;

- Be a national of a Member State of the European Union. However, a limited number of nationals of non-Member States may also be accepted on condition that the applicant fulfils all legal requirements concerning work and/or residence permits in Belgium.

Note: there is no age limit to apply for the EESC traineeship e.g., if you are 33 years old and have a university degree you can apply.

Short term traineeships:

- Applicants must be studying at university or a higher education establishment;

- Have a thorough command of one EU language and a satisfactory command of another, one of which must be English or French for operational reasons;

- Be a national of a Member State of the European Union. However, a limited number of nationals of non-Member States may also be accepted on condition that the applicant fulfils all legal requirements concerning work and/or residence permits in Belgium.


Expenses and Benefits

- Long-term trainees are given a monthly grant of 1476,34 EURthe amount will remain unchanged until the end of the 2025 Spring session (15/07/2025).

- Short-term trainees are given a monthly grant corresponding to 50% of the monthly amount granted to long-term trainees.

- Long-term and short-term trainees are entitled to a flat-rate travel allowance under certain conditions; e.g. the trainee has completed at least half of the traineeship and the distance between the place of residence and Brussels (one way) is greater than 50 km.

Every trainee is covered by the accident insurance taken out by the EESC.

- Trainees are allowed to take 2 days of leave per month of traineeship.


Timeline

For long-term traineeships:

Application period: 3 January - 31 March 2025 for the autumn session (September 2025 - February 2026)

Application period: 1 July - 30 September 2025 for the spring session (February 2026 - July 2026)

For short-term traineeships:

There is no deadline for applying to short-term traineeships, but there shall be a minimum of two months between the submission of an application and the start of a traineeship.


How to apply?

Applicants must submit an online application form having all the require data and documents before the deadline.
