AFS Interkultur offers many volunteering projects for young people for a period of one year starting from summer 2025. All these volunteering program will be funded by the European Solidarity Corps programme of the European commission.
About AFS Interkultur
AFS Interkultur is a partner in the worldwide youth exchange organisation, American Field Service network, represented in over 55 countries. Established in Denmark in 1957, it is the country's oldest and largest non-profit youth exchange organisation, with 20 staff, 30+ local chapters (including in Greenland and the Faroe Islands), and over 2,000 members, many of whom are volunteers. AFS focuses on fostering intercultural understanding and reducing prejudice by promoting connections across cultural differences.
Over the past 50 years, AFS Interkultur has facilitated exchanges with nearly 50 countries and gained significant experience in intercultural learning. Since 1997, it has participated in the European Solidarity Corps as a sending, hosting, and coordinating organisation.
AFS offers programs for:
- High school exchanges for youth aged 15-18 (hosting and sending).
- Gap year opportunities for adults 18+ to study abroad.
- Volunteering programs in Europe, Africa, Asia, Central and South America, and Australia (hosting and sending).
About the volunteering projects
At the moment there are 14 different long-term ESC Volunteering projects for young people aged between 18-30 years in different cities in Denmark in a places such as AFS Office, high school, free school, agriculture school, youth college, technical university, youth club, etc. in the following lines there is a list for these places which you may be interested to choose on of them and spend unforgettable year with a lot of experience.
1. Volunteer at AFS Interkultur office in Frederiksberg, Denmark.

2. Volunteer at AFS Interkultur 18+ office in Frederiksberg, Denmark.

3. Volunteer at Blåkilde Secondary School in Tarm, Denmark
- There will be two volunteers: one for social media and marketing, and another for kitchen and practical tasks, both involving student interaction. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
4. Volunteer at Brenderup folk high school in Brenderup in South of Denmark.
- Volunteers can work in gardening and construction or assist with office and kitchen tasks, based on their preferences. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
5. Volunteer at The Technical University of Denmark, north of Copenhagen
- Four ESC volunteers join DTU's Student Culture Hub to foster inclusion and combat loneliness through cultural events, quirky activities, and student orientations. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
6. Volunteer at Egå Folk high school in Egå, Denmark
- The volunteer will be part of the special fellowship that exists on a Danish Efterskole and Folk High School. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
7. Volunteer at Halvorsminde institution in Hjørring, Denmark
- The volunteer at Halvorsminde will participate as a teacher’s assistant or create his/her own elective course, such as sports, arts, media, music, psychology, and crafts. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
8. Volunteer at Kalø Økologisk Agricultural high school in Rønde, Denmark
- The volunteer will get the opportunity to learn about domestic animal care, animals’ and plants’ annual cycles, greenhouse and outdoor farming. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
9. Volunteer at Kassebølle School center in Rudkøbing, Denmark
- The volunteers will participate in the daily morning gathering when students sing traditional songs and share stories with teachers and children, as well as in the afterschool program. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
10. Volunteer at Ranum Efterskole, School house in Ranum, Denmark
- Volunteers at Danish Efterskole will join a unique fellowship, serving as leaders and consultants to younger students, providing valuable experience in education and event planning. for more details about this project and its requirements, click here
11. Volunteer at Ribe Ungdomshøjskole, folk high school in Ribe, Denmark
- The volunteer will join a tight-knit community where students and staff live and work together. 12. Volunteer at Silkeborg Junior High School in Silkeborg, Denmark

Eligibility | Who can apply?
- Applicants must be aged between between 18 and 30 years old. for some opportunities the the ones mentioned above they may have specific age limit as being over 20 or 25 years of age.
- You have to be a resident in one of the following countries, which are a part of the program: Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, Finland , France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Syria, The Czech Republic, Tunisia, Turkey, and Ukraine.
- The volunteer should be open minded and able to speak English on a conversational level.
Expenses and Benefits
As a part of the European Solidarity Corps program, the following is covered by host organisation:
- International transport is covered to a certain amount. The EU sets a budget depending on the distance to our office. If you travel in a green way your budget will be higher!
- Health insurance
- Food and accommodation
- Allowance and pocket money of 380 euro/month in total: 360 euro (decided by the department of the EU) + 20 euro from the local AFS department.
- Transportation are covered from home to project and from home to language school (if chosen).
- Working hours: 30-38 hours/week ( 5 days per week). All volunteers save up to 2 holidays every month.
