Funded Traineeship at Council of Europe to defend human rights in Europe

Council of Europe offer twice per year two official traineeship sessions (beginning in March and September) to defend human rights in Europe and it welcomes  young graduates into their organisations as trainees. For them it is a chance to gain valuable experience in a complex multi-cultural and stimulating work environment.

Aims of Traineeship

Through this Traineeship Council of Europe provide a comprehensive induction programme for trainees which enables them to find out about the structures, the activities and the international co-operation procedures followed by the Council of Europe, including the implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Trainees may attend conferences held within the Organisation, sittings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and meetings that may take place during their stay in Strasbourg or in the field.


Responsibilities

- The typical responsibilities given to trainees include:

- Research work

- Preparation of draft reports and studies for meetings of experts

- Drafting of meeting reports

- Assistance with work in hand

- Committee organisation

- Updating websites


Eligibility

- You have the nationality of one of the Council of Europe member state 

Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, LithuaniaLuxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovak RepublicSlovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom.

- Have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent .

- Have a willing to acquire practical experience and knowledge of the functioning and activities of the Council of Europe.

- Have a high skills in one of the two Council of Europe official languages (English or French) together with good drafting ability.

- Good knowledge of the other official language is appreciated.


Benefits

Trainees within the official trainee-ship programme receive a monthly allowance as follows:

600 € per month in Strasbourg, France and in the field offices.

300 € per month in field offices if the trainee is recruited locally. 


Timeline

For the Second Session 2022

Deadline: Application deadline is 21 March 2022

Results: Notification of results is 3 June 2022

Start of Traineeship: 1st of September 2022

End of Traineeship: 31st of January 2023

For the First Session 2023

Application: Application will open in September 2022

Start of Traineeship: 1st of March 2023

End of Traineeship: 31st of July 2023
